We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Irrigation Project Assistant to work with the Directors and Contracts Manager for the successful delivery of irrigation projects from initial planning and design through to installation, commissioning, and handover.
The successful candidate will be assisting project programmes, budgets, resources, subcontractors, suppliers, and client relationships, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
Ideally the role requires an understanding of project management and site operations, together with excellent communication and leadership skills
Key Responsibilities
Project Management
- Manage irrigation projects from initial product ordering, mobilisation, through to completion and handover.
- Develop and maintain detailed project programmes, budgets, and delivery plans.
- Monitor project progress, costs, resources, and performance against agreed targets.
- Identify project risks and implement effective mitigation strategies.
- Coordinate multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Prepare regular project reports for senior management and clients.
- Ensure all project documentation, drawings, specifications, records, and handover information are maintained accurately.
- Work closely with designers, engineers, consultants, suppliers, and installation teams to resolve technical issues.
- Ensure installations comply with project specifications, industry standards, and relevant regulations.
- Coordinate system testing, commissioning, fault finding, and final handover.
Site & Construction Management
- Plan and coordinate site activities, labour, plant, materials, and subcontractors.
- Coordinate with other construction trades and site teams to avoid delays and conflicts.
- Manage variations, change orders, delays, and unforeseen site conditions.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Promote a strong health and safety culture across all projects.
- Ensure projects comply with company policies, risk assessments, method statements, and applicable health and safety legislation.
- Investigate and report incidents, near misses, and safety concerns as required.
Commercial Management
- Work with teams to manage valuations, variations, applications for payment, and final accounts.
- Review supplier and subcontractor quotations and negotiate where appropriate.
- Identify opportunities to improve project profitability and operational efficiency.
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Build strong relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and suppliers.
- Attend project meetings and provide clear updates on progress, risks, programme, and costs.
- Manage client expectations and resolve issues professionally and promptly.
- Support the business in identifying opportunities for repeat work and future projects.
Key Skills & Experience
Essential
- Proven experience assisting with irrigation projects or similar construction industries.
- Strong project and organisational skills.
- Understanding of project programmes, budgets, and cost control.
- Excellent communication and client management skills.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and project management software.
- Full driving licence.
Desirable but not essential
- Good technical understanding of irrigation systems and associated equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
